The curriculum includes courses in diction, vocal pedagogy, vocal coaching, opera history and song literature.
About
Tina Milhorn Stallard is an Assistant Professor of Voice at The University of South Carolina, where she teaches applied voice and vocal pedagogy. She earned the Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and is an alumnus of Belmont University and the University of Kentucky, where she was a Haggin Fellow. Stallard has studied with master teachers Barbara Honn and Stephen King.
Stallard is known for her positive approach to teaching. Her practical method combines physiology and imagery to develop a healthy vocal technique based on sound pedagogical principles. Her students have been winners in various competitions, including the Metropolitan Opera district auditions, Longleaf Opera, Charlotte Opera Guild, LaGrange Symphony Competition, and state NATS auditions. Many have participated in summer programs such as Seagle Colony, Opera in the Ozarks, Lied Austria, The Italian Opera Experience, and The Austrian American Mozart Academy.
The University of South Carolina School of Music has established a national reputation for artistic and scholarly excellence. An acclaimed faculty teach 500 undergraduate and graduate music majors, including students specializing in virtually every orchestra and band instrument, and in voice, piano, organ, and guitar. As a comprehensive program, the School of Music offers more than twenty degree programs including music education, performance, jazz, composition, theory, history, and conducting.
Opera at USC offers excellent training opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students. The comprehensive curriculum includes Opera Workshop courses, the In School Opera Educational Outreach program, as well as three full-length opera productions annually. Students from all degree programs are eligible to audition for principal and secondary roles, as well as opera chorus. USC offers a Master of Music in Opera Theater, both in voice and stage directing.
The Choral Department at USC is dedicated to the art of choral singing. Students have the opportunity to perform year-round in musical styles ranging from Renaissance to rock. Not only will you experience the thrill and joy of performing for audiences both on- and off-campus, you will meet others with similar interests and goals.
